    No. my experience of using alcohols (IPA, ethanol, methanol) as crystalising solution showed that you get small? sand-like crystals. Although rather pure, but they never had grown big in size.

    Hi. This was done by dissolving in mixture of water&acetone. The solution must be clear, not cloudy or misty. An then it was left in dark kitchen locker for about a week or so. Hope this could be useful for you or anyone.

    Oh, and just another advice on acidifying step. Before you start, divide your freebase solution in two halfs. Or at least leave some ammount. This could be really a savior in case. If you somehow happen to overshoot too much acid, just add this extra freebase and this will fix your mistake...

    In general the process is right. One more thing you could do is to wash organic layer with brine at the end. This would remove any leftover water, leaving more clear layer. Ethylacetate does work. Haven't used IPA. My advice is don't dilute your freebase solution. Just add dropwise and...

    Let me share a piece of my practical experience. With the acetic acid route it doesn't have to be glacial concentration. I've tried 70% "acetic essence", (that is available OTC in food stores in my area) and it worked! BTW, the process is much less messy and easy workup compared to the DCM...
