I have seen that there are two versions mercury(II) and mercury(I)

Which would be the most suitable for the synthesis of amphetamine?

You will need, mercury(II)nitrate to make aluminium amalgam or you can also use mercury(II) chlorid, may also work.

I can get this and buy it in Spain... Would that be worth it?

Can any expert review this and tell me if it would be valid?

Hello there. Pennywise was right. Mercury(II)nitrate (Hg(NO3)2) [cas 10045-94-0] is used for this synthesis. Also, you can use Mercury(II)chloride [cas 7487-94-7].

The link that I have put would be worth it? Do they work the same or are they different?

Hi, does anyone know a good video of Mercury nitrate synthesis and purification. I have found one but it uses the yellow solution with nitric acid for the amalgamation, on the other hand another video uses pure white powdered Mercury (II) nitrate.

I am seeing that the molecular form of mercuric nitrate is: Hg(NO3)2

And the mercury chloride that I have put is: HgCl2

Are you sure it will work?

And the CAS of mercuric chloride is: 7487-94-7

And that of mercuric nitrate is: 7783-34-8

Forgive the insistence, it's €125 and I don't want to "throw it away"

Ok, sorry if I seem a bit stupid and repeat some question. I want to one day be able to contribute to the forum :)

Are the quantities to be used the same?

The CAS number of the nitrate is not the same as above (10045-94-0) plz check it

Generally there is no specific amount of mercury salt to use, whether you use a knife tip or 1g of mercury salt, it only affects the speed of the amalgam process in relation to the amount of aluminum and the quality of the amalgam. But don't use too much, because that would be a waste, find an amount that fits your needs and start with small amounts (50-100mg) and then slowly increase the amount from synthesis to synthesis, you will see what I mean. The amalgam process is an important part of the synthesis, look at how the reaction looks and feels. It should be a dark gray solution with many bubbles. .
