Good evening everyone,

I am currently looking for information on PGP, and more specifically on information retrieval via a "keybase". Recently, I had a discussion with very interesting people who were able to identify an email address solely from a PGP fingerprint. They used a keybase that lists PGP fingerprints to carry out their research.

However, I am not very familiar with this concept of "keybase". Could someone explain to me how it works exactly? What are the advantages and limitations of this method of information retrieval?

If you have examples of "keybase" or resources to recommend to me to learn more, I would be very grateful.

Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

When you create a PGP key you can include your email in it if you want. You can also upload your public keys to a public keyserver.

You didn't have a discussion with interesting people carrying out 'research'. These are normal pgp features. Have you not used GnuPG? Just read the manual.

It is a very bad idea to a) attach an email to a PGP key and b) load it to a public server.

I mean, do you want it secret or not?
